The Bradley Stoke Hospital runs a separate night team from the day team. These staff come on duty at a change over time of 6.30pm to 8.30pm. We find this works well as there is a lot to do in a busy hospital overnight caring for the animals on the ward and seeing emergencies throughout the night as they occur. The night team consists of a veterinary surgeon, a veterinary nurse and a care assistant.  This ensures that the animals get the best quality of care that they need.

The day team consists of six veterinary surgeons and they are supported by qualified veterinary nurses, student veterinary nurses and care assistants.

Rob Harper

Rob Harper

Veterinary Surgeon

Rob qualified from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies at the University of Edinburgh in 1976 and has worked exclusively in small animal practice since then both as a general practitioner and in more specialised practice.

Both surgical and medical oncology fascinated him for many years: in 2006 he gained a post-graduate degree in Clinical Oncology from the University of Birmingham and then ran the oncology referral service at the Rowe Veterinary Group for several years.

Recently however he has concentrated more on his other main veterinary interests of emergency work and critical care and currently heads up the service that provides out-of-hours care for not only Rowe Veterinary Group clients but also clients of several other local practices.

Outside of veterinary work his interests are in outdoor pursuits – in particular caving: as well as caving regularly in the UK and Europe he has organised expeditions to Peru, Alaska, Meghalaya (N.E.India), Sulawesi, Thailand and Panama and has been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
